2013-2014 · Play the Walk
MOTION GRAPHICS + VIDEO EDITING Play the Walk was a curated neighbourhood exploration project. Located in the newly developed West Queen West Triangle in Toronto you could walk around the neighbourhood following a psychogeographic map.

MY ROOTS~PART THREE 2012 · PIQUE GRAD SHOW  ENVIRONMENTAL | INTERIOR DESIGN | EVENT COORDINATOR 
For my final “going back to my roots” piece, I am going to take you from imagination and fantasy to reality. This is how I learned to love creating magical environments in our physical world.  
As part of the display team for my grad show, I took part in designing the floor plan as well as constructing the A-frames to match the theme of the show.

I can leave it there. That is basically what this project was. But to me, it was so much more. Our year was the first year to solve “the flow issue”.

Every year before our grad show would be in the same location. Every year they would have the same issue: how to move people around in the space.

Because of how the a-frames were arranged (in a grid like pattern of x’s) people would tend to stay towards the front end of the grad show space, and not really wander towards the back. So students who had work at the back, didn't really have the same amount of exposure as the students in the front. We wanted to change that. We wanted to solve that problem. So we got into smaller groups, and each of us came up with a way that could make the flow of the space more equal.

The small group that I was in came up with some more open concept style, which is the layout you more or less see above. We took the concept of a racetrack that you could loop around, so it forced constant movement - or a better flow. We also left gaps in between the middle A-frames so that you can make smaller loops if needed.   It worked. Everyone felt like they had equal exposure and the space felt more open and more explorative. It was such a impact on me too. To solve a physical problem that helped people brought me so much joy. I continue to solve environmental and interior design problems because of this project.

Naturally, I progressed from one storytelling medium to another: books to movies (or in design terms, print to motion). As child, my first experience with movies was pure magic. Instead of imagining the still images in books moving in my mind, they were now coming alive and moving in front of me on a screen. I was enchanted by it.   When I took my first motion class, I learned the mechanics behind the enchantment. To this day, anytime I take an image and bring it to life through motion graphics is still magic to me - and I know how it works.  My first motion project is still as goofy and wonderful as the day I made it. Combining my love of comedy, superheroes and romance, this short tells the story of teaching a new generation of superheroes how not to make the mistakes of the old.

WHITELIGHT STUDIO • 2010
For my first studio, I decided to name it whitelight. The name came from the need to represent that I am multifaceted designer - graphic, motion, print, editorial, environmental, interior - I do it all. I realized that majority of my designs were digital based so I thought light would be a great representation. Light was also a great example of the colourful wavelengths within the visual spectrum, which was symbolic of the many types of design I could bring to a client. So what could show of the full visual rainbow of colour from one source?

A diamond! It was the perfect symbol - diamonds beautifully refracts light to show all the colours on our visual spectrum. It’s also strong, classic, lasts forever and are gorge. 💁‍♀️ Exactly what I wanted the work I did for my clients and their business to be.
